UCC Archery Push Themselves for Science!
This year the UCC Archery Club wanted to get more involved with Final Year Projects that had a physical aspect to their study. Our committee members got in contact with the Department of Physiology and we were put in touch with two final year students, Kieran Moynihan and Daniel Foran. They were investigating the effects of certain probiotic supplements on a person’s breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, and cardio-respiratory responses to various challenges. The Archery Club were happy to assist and over a period of three weeks this term, Club members were given a supplement to take for seven days after which they carried out physical testing for an extended period on time. Kieran and Daniel had us willing volunteers do this cycle twice so that each person’s data could be examined while under the effect of the probiotic and when taking a control supplement. We wish Kieran and Daniel the very best of luck when submitting their theses and hope that the Club offered a wealth of good data to conduct their research.
