Inter-Varsities: Take Two

Only one week after the start of the IV’s league, the second edition occurred. This time in Maynooth University. It was quite a step forward for the UCC Archery club as we brought along two beginners to their first competition, Emma Murphy and Brian Fox. Both were shoot recurve bows and seemed to enjoy themselves.

It was a new experience for some off the team as Maynooth University archery club has some foam butts which are a dream to shoot at, well most of the time. There was a couple of mishaps are several of Carla Reinhardt and Cormac O’Callaghan’s arrows were bouncing off the butts. Good thing where it marks the target face is counted in scores. It got quite bad for Carla that Maynooth had to change the butt for a different one. This didn’t stop our shooters though and they pushed through and achieved some nice results.

Carla Reinhardt came 1st in her division this time round with 403 and Amy Garde came 2nd in hers with 248. It sure is a fantastic start to IVs this year. The others all did fantastic too even with the couple of mishaps with butts and bows.

We are all looking forward to the next instalment of the IVs, which will be next February (so plenty of time for practicing). In the meantime, watch out for our next beginner competition, happening on the 30th November.
